The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement

The mission of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, as a regulatory State agency, is to establish and enforce standards to ensure that the people of Texas are served by highly trained and ethical law enforcement, corrections, and telecommunications personnel. TCOLE regulates, inspects, and governs all law enforcement agencies and academies in Texas.

ETPA License Information

The East Texas Police Academy is licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement as a Law Enforcement Academy and is contracted by the Commission to provide training courses. Law Enforcement Academies licensed by the Commission on Law Enforcement provide basic licensing and continuing education training courses which may be submitted for TCOLE credit. ETPA's TCOLE academy provider number is 511256.

Kilgore College institutional academic credit for the BPOC and NBPOC:

The East Texas Police Academy offers its graduates a unique opportunity to earn credit toward an associate of applied science degree at Kilgore College. Students who successfully complete the BPOC or NBPOC and then pass the TCOLE licensing exam can receive 24 hours of Kilgore College institutional credit (“CR”). These 24 hours of institutional credit can be applied toward the 60-hour AAS in Criminal Justice degree at KC. All of the remaining 36 hours of the AAS degree can be taken online.

Students who are full-time, paid, Texas peace officers may qualify for tuition and lab fee exemptions for their criminal justice courses under Texas Education Code §54.208.
