Physical Skills Assessment

ETPA offers TCOLE Course #7878, Peace Officer Reactivation Physical Skills Assessment for former peace officers who are eligible to take this course as part of their license reactivation process. Prior to taking this course, students must show that they meet the license reactivation requirements under TCOLE Rule §219.11, and must have successfully completed TCOLE Course #1018 Texas Supplemental Peace Officer Course.

Please note that this skills assessment is just that - a skills assessment. Reasonable and brief remedial training will be provided for specific skills if required; however, no other training will be provided.

Students must provide their own firearms, ammunition (minimum 100 rounds), and duty gear. Students needing to borrow a weapon or gear must contact the instructor prior to the course.

Students are expected to be able to pass the following skills assessments upon their arrival:

- Pistol qualification (50 rounds, including 8 rounds fired from the 25 yard line; including cleaning and inspection of the weapon)

- Shotgun qualification (5 rounds, including 2 slugs fired from the 25 yard line; including cleaning and inspection of the weapon)

- Appropriate verbal de-escalation and scenario-based applications of CIT training

- Mechanics of arrest and defensive tactics

Additionally, students must be able to provide proof of a current and valid Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification from the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, or the National CPR Foundation at the time they register for the course.
