The East Texas Police Academy is dedicated to meeting the pre-service and in-service training needs of the officers, agencies, and communities of Northeast Texas. ETPA has provided law enforcement training since the academy's inception in 1966. ETPA provides a huge array of classes throughout the East Texas Council of Governments and Ark-Tex Council of Governments service delivery areas.   We strive to provide the most progressive, professional, and effective law enforcement training possible.

The East Texas Police Academy is licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement as a Law Enforcement Academy and is contracted by the Commission to provide training courses. Law Enforcement Academies licensed by the Commission on Law Enforcement provide basic licensing and continuing education training courses which may be submitted for TCOLE credit. ETPA offers a diverse selection of classes: the 775-hour Basic Peace Officer Course, the 120-hour Basic County Corrections Course, the 40-hour Basic Telecommunicator Certification Course, all required intermediate-level core courses, mandated recurrent courses, and a host of other specialized basic and advanced courses. ETPA is a part of Kilgore College’s Public Services and Industrial Technologies Division. The other law enforcement / criminal justice portions of the division are the Criminal Justice academic transfer AA/AS degree program and the Criminal Justice AAS workforce degree program.
